The big buffet-styles meals of the holiday season are tough on people with eating disorders. The evidence comes from a surge in people seeking treatment this time of year, according to The Moore Center.

Eating disorder center sees patient spike over holidays

Most would agree that the holidays are a stressful time of year, but especially so for those facing an eating disorder. The Moore Center in Bellevue reports the number of patients seeking treatment for an eating disorder has increased nearly 20 percent this holiday season.

The Moore Center announced today it is partnering with Eating Recovery Center, an international center for eating disorders recovery providing comprehensive treatment for anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS and binge eating disorder based in Denver, Colo.

This partnership brings synergies to both organizations, enabling The Moore Center to enhance its current treatment options and expand its ability to provide inpatient and residential treatment for eating disorders, and providing Eating Recovery Center patients an additional high quality treatment option to explore as they step down from higher levels of care. Patients at both facilities will experience the benefits of two of the best programs sharing medical and clinical practices and philosophies.

Our very own Dr. Moore was interviewed last week by KOMO TV news anchor about the prevalence of eating disorders in adolescence and common signs and behaviors to watch for, especially during the summer season. Check out this video clip to watch the entire interview. KOMO_TV Clip

A few lovely representatives from The Moore Center, braved the rain in Portland, Oregon to attend the annual NEDA Walk on June 23. NEDA or National Eating Disorders Association is a national, non-profit with the mission to raise awareness about eating disorders. The NEDA Walk is a really fun event happening in many cities throughout the country. This year in Portland they had music and speakers and folks who participated in the event raised over $9,000 for NEDA!
